It incorporates training on how to comply with 49 CFR 172.704 initial and recurrent requirements. Fall Protection Training

Employers with two or more employees who may be exposed to falls must have a written fall protection program and training. This course instructs workers how to identify, consider and select the appropriate fall protection system. Topics include safety nets, guardrails, personal fall arrest systems and proper use of ladders. Controlled access zones (CAZ), covers, protection from falling objects, limitations of safety equipment and how to implement a fall protection plan are discussed.

Fire Prevention Training

This course teaches employees how they can help reduce the risk of fire and what to do in the event of one. Participants review OSHA’s top ten reasons why most workplace fires occur. Topics include how to properly store and use flammable liquids and the best way to dispose of oil, paint and grease-soaked materials. Proper selection and use of portable fire extinguishers are covered and students may participate in a hands-on “live burn” demonstration of fire extinguisher use.

Forklift Operator Training

Powered Industrial Truck Certification Training Operators will be instructed on how to conduct pre-work inspections, steering, load handling techniques, how to work around pedestrians, hazardous floor surfaces, emergency stopping and forklift securing. The course is specific to the make and model of equipment used at your facility; a variety of forklift equipment, from electric and LP gas-powered units to all-terrain forklifts, order pickers and pallet trucks can be included. Operator skills will be evaluated to meet the regulatory training requirements. Recommendation: 8 hours training for new operators; 4 hours training for refresher classes and experienced operators.

Hazard Communication (HazCom) Training

OSHA requires employees that are exposed to hazardous chemicals in the workplace receive HAZCOM training. This course provides managers, supervisors and employees with step-by-step solutions for complying with each of the six major sections under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard. Topics include proper use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazard warning labels, right-to-know stations, personal protective equipment, chemical storage requirements and chemical inventories and the Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

Note: OSHA has mandated that all employees be trained in the Global Harmonized System by December 1, 2013. This class meets the OSHA GHS mandated training.

HAZWOPER 24-hour Initial Training

This course is designed for employees who may respond occasionally on a specific, limited level. They are unlikely to exceed Permissible Exposure Limits at sites that have been characterized and the site does not have the possibility of developing into an emergency situation. Key course components include recognizing and evaluating hazardous materials incidents, organizing the response team, protecting response personnel, identifying and using response resources, implementing basic control measures, refining decision-making skills and protecting the public. Also included are chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials, toxicology, recognition and identification of hazardous materials, direct-reading instruments, standard operating procedures, personal protection and safety and sources of information.

This training course emphasizes hands-on use of equipment, complementing the lecture sessions. Class members participate in two simulations wearing fully encapsulating suits, chemical splash gear and air-monitoring equipment. Course length: 24 hours

HAZWOPER Awareness Level

Employees who attend this level course may be the individuals who would initiate the emergency response procedures by notifying proper authorities within an organization. Topics include hazardous materials identification, emergency response procedures, evacuation routes, reporting procedures and protocol to follow during a plant emergency. Course length: 4 hours

HAZWOPER Incident Commander Training

This course is designed to train supervisors and managers who must fulfill the role of Incident Commander during company or local emergency response incidents. This course addresses the training requirements outlined in NFPA 1561, Standard on Emergency Services Incident Management System and 29 CFR 1910.120, OSHA’s Procedures for Handling Emergency Response.

Topics include system implementation, structure and function of command, communications, incident management teams, emergency operations centers, managing responder safety and site characterization. Prerequisite: 40-hour initial HAZWOPER course or equivalent first responder HAZMAT course. Course Length: 16 hours

This course is designed to meet OSHA refresher training compliance as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(e) and (q). Hearing Protection and Conservation

Participants will be taught the dangers of chronic noise exposure and the precautions that can be taken to protect their hearing. The course describes the essentials of an OSHA hearing conservation program, including demonstrating proper fitting, use and care of hearing protection as well as engineering and administrative controls, record keeping and other hearing-related topics.

Heat Stress Prevention Training

Operations involving high air temperatures, radiant heat sources, high humidity, direct physical contact with hot objects, or strenuous physical activities have a high potential for inducing heat stress. This course explains how employees can protect themselves in high temperature/high humidity environments. Participants will be taught how to recognize the classic signs and symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Insects and Dangerous Flora or Fauna

This course is designed for field workers and focuses on the most common risks from insects; rodents, feral cats and stray dogs; and hazardous plant species. Lockout Tagout - Hazardous Energy Control Training

This program focuses on stored, potentially hazardous energy sources: how to identify them, procedures required to help avoid life threatening situations, how to achieve a “zero energy state,” when to use locks and tags and rules to follow when using multiple locks. Employees will be taught the hazards associated with improper lockout/tagout practices with specific energy sources, including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam and water, stored mechanical, vacuum, gravitational, momentum and thermal exposures. This course is appropriate for authorized, affected and other employees.

Machine guarding is not foolproof and requires employee responsibility when working with machinery and moving parts. This course is designed for personnel using respirators in the workplace. Employees will be trained on the types of respirators used at their worksite. Individuals who use NIOSH approved respirators must receive training every year in the selection, fitting, use and care of respirators. See also Respirator Fit-Testing.

This course provides participants information about the Department of Transportation duties and responsibilities of flaggers and personnel that must divert traffic around work zones.

This course meets the regulatory training requirements for employees conducting work in or controlling traffic with flaggers in state/federal right of ways.

This course instructs on primary tasks such as guiding traffic safely through work areas, channeling, equipment positioning and protecting other workers. The rules of conduct, description of barricading equipment and the hazard identification of various work zones and traffic situations that require special flagging considerations are discussed. Participants will receive a copy of the Manual For Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Tool Safety Training

The purpose of this hands-on course is to help eliminate and reduce injuries involving the use of hand and power tools. Participants will be taught the proper approach to using tools of all types and safety factors such as personal protective equipment, maintenance, mental awareness and attitude. During the hands-on training module, each participant will be evaluated on various skill blocks to verify comprehension and skill mastery during masonry, metal and wood projects.

Welding Safety - Level 1

This classroom course covers OSHA 29 CFR 1910.251-254 and 29 CFR 1926.350-354 safety requirements regarding arc welding, MIG welding, oxy/acetylene cutting and plasma cutting. Topics include handling, proper storage, shop surveys, hot work permits, PPE, hazardous gases and fumes, and electrocution. Safety equipment is brought in for demonstration purposes.

Welding Safety - Level 2

This course combines the 4-hour classroom portion plus four hours of hands-on training using site-specific equipment. Techniques used in set-up of arc and MIG welders, cutting torches and plasma cutters are taught. This course helps prepare participants to safely continue improving on their own.

Welding Safety - Level 3

Day 1 of this advanced course includes 4 hours of safety and 4 hours of more detailed coverage of welding and cutting processes to better understand the function and proper settings of the equipment. Also provided is a more in-depth lecture on proper rod use and heat settings for different metals and thicknesses. Day 2 is 4 hours of hands-on welding in the shop applying the course material.
